School districts across the country have received federal funds to help safely reopen schools and address the learning gaps from the impact of COVID-19 on students. We must also ensure that we are committed to the continuity of learning. The third economic stimulus package called the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act included an allocation of funds for school districts (ESSER III). The ESSER III must be prioritized for a minimum of 20% of the funds for in-person learning and learning loss mitigation.
School districts can use these funds for a variety of purposes including: Interventions to prevent learning loss, school safety and preparedness, virtual instruction, outreach services for special populations, mental health services and supports, facility upgrades, and educational technology.
